Facilities – Linda Palchick
Soccer games start Saturday April 14th (weather permitting). Linda has received no requests for the pavilion so far which is historically unusual.
Linda Palchick presented a request from the West Geauga Baseball Federation for use of the baseball field for the summer season. They have contracted with Munson Valley Landscaping for pre-season prep on all the fields on which they play. They included the Commons field. Unaware that our Board usual makes arrangements for pre-season prep, the Federation is asking our Board to cover the cost as quoted by Munson Valley Landscaping - $1,380.00. After discussion, Rick Izant moved to encumber $1,380.00 to cover this.
Frank Formicelli seconded. Vote was taken:

The federation will have 1 Pony team and 1 Colt team. Both teams will practice on the field. If the pitching mound can accommodate the difference from home plate for both leagues, (length from home plate for the bases and pitching rubber are different), both teams will use the field otherwise home games for Colt league will be played in Newbury. Jason will work with the representatives from Munson Valley re: the field prep. Linda will contact the Federation president regarding our Board’s decision.
Maintenance – Jason Abate lined the soccer fields. They were very wet on Monday making it difficult for him to push the striper. Some areas on the trail have washed out. When the weather improves, he will see if grindings are needed. He will fertilize with improved weather also. He probably will put the volleyball nets up in a couple of weeks. Jason also reported that 2 individuals were kicking a goal on the junior field. One person – in bare feet, was in the box and another , wearing spikes, was on the junior field. Jason stated that they “had made a mess” on the field. Walt asked Jason to check the fields on Thursday and notify Linda since the Soccer club would like to cancel their games early if necessary.
Old Business – WEB – Mick reports revisions have been made. We can go “live” whenever we wish. He has added some “historical” photos but would like more of the park itself. Locals have been responding already. He is not happy with the present WEB master since their response to him regarding questions, etc. is very slow. Our contract with this company is year to year only so we can make a change if needed.
Playground – Rick Izant Rick received the divided bid from Meyer Design Inc. as Ed Curtis requested. Linda Palchick talked to Bart regarding Kiwanis’ monetary donation. They won’t have a definite answer until their business meeting at the end of April. Rick will follow through with letters to Rotary, West Geauga Baseball Federation, West Geauga Recreation Council and West Geauga Soccer Club asking for a monetary donation. The Lions Club has definitely approved $500.00.
Walt Waetjen suggested that we move our monthly meetings back to the second Wednesday of the month if there were no objections from the Board members. There were none, so our next meeting will be May 9, 2018.
Bernie suggested that we should consider putting bocce courts in at the Commons. Jason has put some in at a home previously. Bernie and Jason will do some further checking on the location placement, etc. The idea was well received by the Board as a possible “need” for the community.
The Board was reminded of the Eagle Scout program from Xavier Zup, who made the entrance sign at the park’s entrance. The program will be April 28, 2018 at The Rookery from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Bernie Mandel motioned for meeting adjournment at 7:56 pm.
Frank Formicelli seconded the motion. Vote was taken:
