MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR MEETING

WEST GEAUGA COMMUNITY JOINT RECREATION DISTRICT

 July 11, 2018 

Meeting was called to order by President Walt Waetjen at 7:08 pm at the Commons pavilion.  Roll call was taken by clerk, Monica Gromek.  Board members present: 

The minutes for the: June 2018 meeting were presented.  Ed Curtis motioned to accept the minutes.  Bernie Mandel seconded.  Vote was taken:

All in favor, motion carried.  

The Treasurer’s report for June 2018 was distributed by treasurer, Ed Curtis.  The June treasurer’s report showed:  Ending checking balance: $19,335.09; Total disbursements: $6,660.00; Total deposits: $1,000.00; Encumbered funds: $1,380.00; Unencumbered funds: $44,661.30.  John Gromek motioned to accept the treasurer’s report; Rick Izant seconded.  Vote was taken: 

All in favor, motion carried.  

Our board was charged $9,400.00 by the Board of elections for the November 2017 split ballot issues expense.  This payment was taken out of our Maintenance Account.  Our West Geauga Community Joint Recreation District levy and the West Geauga School Board were the only issues on the November 2017 ballot.  Back in 2012 there were more issues and our cost were only $1649.00 at that time.  Because of this unexpected large bill, our Board only has $2,000.00 left to spend this remaining 2018 year.  No funds to mulch the beds this year. 

Ed Curtis presented the Annual Appropriation Resolution.  Clerk Monica Gromek read the following:

The Board of Trustees of the West Geauga Community Joint Recreation District, Geauga County, Ohio, met in General  session on the 11th day of July, 2018 at the West Geauga Commons Park with the following members(s) present:  Mick Benitez-Santana, Ed Curtis, Frank Formicelli, John Gromek, Rick Izant, Bernie Mandel, Linda Palchick, Greg Poe, Walt Waetjen.

Bernie Mandel moved the adoption of the following Resolution:

BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Trustees of the West Geauga Community Joint Recreation District, Geauga County,  Ohio that to provide the current expenses and other expenditures of said Board of Trustees, during the fiscal year ending  December 31, 2019 the following sums be and the same are hereby set aside and appropriated for the several purposes for which expenditures are to be made for and during said fiscal year as follows, viz:

GENERAL FUND

That there be appropriated from the GENERAL FUND for: 

  60 Program Facility Expense   $64,000

  Total General Fund    $64,000

John Gromek seconded the resolution and the roll being called upon its adoption, the vote resulted as follows:

Adopted this 11th day of July 2018

Ed Curtis also distributed the Annual Park District Budget, Geauga County for the year commencing January 1, 2019. 

Linda Palchick – Facilities                                                                                                                                             Soccer is done.  Rec Council Soccer is still playing.  1 baseball game upcoming and no pavilion requests

John Gromek – Maintenance                                                                                                                                               Ian is going to spot fertilize for clover this Friday.  A quote for 3,400.00 for mulching the trees and entrance was received from Abate Landscaping.  There is no money in our budget this year to mulch. 

Mick Benitez-Santana – Website                                                                                                                                      Need to thank Chester Township for their monetary donation on the website and newspapers. 

Rick Izant – Playground                                                                                                                                                  Chester and Russell Townships have committed to this project.  The deposit has been paid to begin work on the playground project.  We are waiting for a date from the Kiwanis Club when they are ready to start the work.  Baseball Federation donated monies.   Walt Waetjen thanked all those who attended the township meetings. 

Bernie Mandel motioned to affirm board action to approve $22,268.00 for the cost of refurbishing our playground.  $15,000 is coming out of the Capital Fund and $7,268 from the general fund.  Rick Izant seconded.  Vote was taken: 

All in favor, motion carried.  

New Business

Greg Poe was welcomed as our new Board Member appointed from Chester Township.

Bernie Mandel will approach the WG Board of Education Treasurer for a donation to our playground project. 

Bernie Mandel motioned for meeting adjournment at 7:50 pm.   Ed Curtis seconded. Vote was taken:
