MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR MEETING
WEST GEAUGA COMMUNITY JOINT RECREATION DISTRICT
AUGUST 14, 2019
Vice President Bernie Mandel called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm at the West Geauga Commons Pavilion. Board members present: Mick Benitez, Ed Curtis, John Gromek, Rick Izant, Bernie Mandel, Linda Palchick, and Greg Poe.
The minutes from the July meeting presented by clerk, Monica Gromek. John Gromek motioned to accept the minutes. Ed Curtis seconded. Vote was taken: Mick, yes; Ed, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes. All in favor, motion carried.
The Treasurer’s report for July 2019 was distributed by treasurer, Ed Curtis. The treasurer’s report showed: Ending checking balance: $12,254.49; Total disbursements: $6,525.00; Total deposits: $200.00; Encumbered funds: $7,800.00; Unencumbered funds: $32,175.39. Bernie Mandel motioned to accept the treasurer’s report; Rick Izant seconded. Vote was taken: Mick, yes; Ed, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes. All in favor, motion carried.
Linda Palchick motioned to pay the following bills: Monica Gromek August 2019 minutes $ 25.00 Alt Media Web page $ 460.08 Westfield Insurance Liability insurance $2,816.00 A B Roofing Re-roof and repair pavilion $6,880.00
John Gromek motioned to change/increase A B Roofing cost/bill of $6,880.00 to $8,500.00; due to additional roof sheathing materials and labor. Mick Benitez-Santana seconded the motion. Vote was taken: Mick, yes; Ed, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes. All in favor, motion carried.
Rick Izant seconded the motion to pay the bills. Vote was taken. Mick, yes; Ed, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes. All in favor, motion carried.
Ed Curtis said the Budget Hearing is next Monday, August 19, 2019 at the County building. There is $4,000.00 remaining to spend by our Board for the rest of 2019.
Facilities – Linda Palchick Soccer Club begins this Sunday, August 18, 2019. Jeff Mann submitted 8 games – Akron league. No pavilion requests received this month.
Maintenance – John Gromek & Jason Abate All is good at the Park. All trimmings have been done along the edges of the trails. John Gromek motioned to encumber $1,000.00 for Jason Abate to cut down approximately 15 dead trees at the Park (which have been marked). Mick Benitez-Santana seconded the motion. Vote was taken. Mick, yes; Ed, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes. All in favor, motion carried.
Sand – Rick Izant Josh Holbrook agreed 3 truckloads of sand and it will be placed on their schedule. Rick Izant will call Robert Schwarz from Kiwanis to see if they can possibly help to deliver the sand. Linda Palchick will ask Bart Alcorn if he can help with moving the sand. Jason Abate stated the volleyball court is severely in need of more sand. Jason Abate said he and his staff can possibly help with the sand project.
The pavilion roof needed plywood added to replace rotten plywood. Additional cost is approx. $1,000.00. Painting of this new plywood is now needed. John Gromek will research a painter. Rick Izant has a contact name.
New Business - Pat Jasko has been admitted to the hospital with pneumonia. She put her life into The Commons. Bernie Mandel suggested to honor her by naming the pavilion ‘Jasko Pavilion’ and hang a sign at the entrance to the pavilion. John Gromek will research information on a sign.
