MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR MEETING
WEST GEAUGA COMMUNITY JOINT RECREATION DISTRICT
OCTOBER 16, 2019
Vice President Bernie Mandel called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm at the library at West Geauga High School. Board members present – Mick Benitez-Santana, Ed Curtis, Frank Formichelli, John Gromek, Rick Izant, Bernie Mandel, Linda Palchick, and Greg Poe. Jason Abate also present. IT IS WITH OUR SADDENED HEARTS that President Walt Waetjen passed away on September 27, 2019. We honored him including our tribute with his empty chair and several moments of silence.
The minutes from the September meeting presented by clerk, Monica Gromek. Ed Curtis motioned to accept the minutes. Rick Izant seconded. Vote was taken: Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes. All in favor, motion carried.
The Board welcomed guest Alex Cannata. He is a graduate of WG and University of Akron. He is asking our permission to set up cameras to take pictures of the sky; through the tree view. The Board approved him to set up on the soccer field. He would take pictures for about an hour, pack up and go home. Russell Police will be advised. John Gromek made a motion to allow Alex to use The Commons for his project. Rick Izant seconded. Vote was taken: Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes. All in favor, motion carried.
The Treasurer’s report for September 2019 was distributed by treasurer, Ed Curtis. The treasurer’s report showed: Ending checking balance: $22,954.16; Total disbursements: $6,547.41; Total deposits: $27,960.61 Encumbered funds: $2,875.00; Unencumbered funds: $40,801.85. Bernie Mandel motioned to accept the treasurer’s report; Rick Izant seconded. Vote was taken: Vote was taken: Ed, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes. All in favor, motion carried
Linda Palchick motioned to pay the following bills. John Gromek seconded. Yoder Painting Pavilion painting $1,350.00 Monica Gromek October 2019 minutes $ 25.00 Mulberry Creek Florists Walt Waetjen floral arrangement $ 110.00

Linda Palchick – Facilities Linda sent message to Jeff Mann about the soccer tournament this weekend. No reply. He requested a smaller field to be set up on the upper field. Jason Abate not contacted yet about lining the fields…only 3 days away. There are 2 more soccer weekends this month.
Maintenance – Jason Abate The bathroom tanks have been pumped. The cleaning of these tanks MUST BE documented EVERY YEAR. We must file with the EPA every 3 years. Jason reported that some of the ash trees have been chopped down. And the fields were fertilized last week.
Computer – Mick Benitez-Santana no report.
Playground – Rick Izant reported the pavilion has been painted. Sand for the playground will be done in the spring of 2020; weather permitting.
No report on the Eagle Scout trail signs project. Card sent to the Drockton sons on the death of their dad.
Next meeting Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at the library of WG high school at 7:00 pm. Frank Formicelli motioned for meeting adjournment at 7:30 p. Mick Benitez-Santana seconded.
