MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR MEETING
WEST GEAUGA COMMUNITY JOINT RECREATION DISTRICT
FEBRUARY 12, 2020
Vice President Bernie Mandel called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm at the library at West Geauga High School. Board members present – Mick Benitez-Santana, Ed Curtis, John Gromek, Rick Izant, Bernie Mandel, Linda Palchick and Greg Poe. Jason Abate also present.
The minutes from the January meeting presented by clerk, Monica Gromek. John Gromek motioned to accept the minutes. Linda Palchick seconded. Vote was taken: Mick, yes; Ed, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes; and Greg, yes. All in favor, motion carried.
The January treasurer’s report was distributed by Treasurer Ed Curtis. The treasurer’s report showed: Ending checking balance: $24,072.80; Total disbursements: $25.00; Total deposits: $0 Encumbered funds: $250.00; Unencumbered funds: $44,548.28. Linda Palchick motioned to accept the treasurer’s report; Mick Benitez-Santana motioned to accept the treasurer’s report. Vote was taken: Mick, yes; Ed, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes; and Greg, yes. All in favor, motion carried.
Linda Palchick motioned to pay the following bills:
Monica Gromek February 2020 minutes $ 25.00
Abate Landscaping snow plow 4 x 75.00 + park work $ 527.76
John Gromek seconded. Vote was taken: Mick, yes; Ed, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes; and Greg, yes. All in favor, motion carried.
Linda Palchick – Facilities
Linda visited Willowleaf Signs in Middlefield for information on the sign for Pat Jasko Pavilion and Waetjen Trail. A design will be drawn up. A program will be needed, invitations, etc. when the dedication will be held. Pat Jasko’s health is an issue now and we shall discuss this more at next month’s meeting.
Soccer games begin April 19, 2020. Letters to our sport groups will be mailed inviting them all to our March, 2020 meeting; discussing the upcoming season. There are many 7-9 yr soccer teams: 9 teams at Clay Eddy field. Our lower soccer field can be used, if necessary.
No report from Eagle Scout Ryan on the tree sign project.
John Gromek and Jason Abate – Maintenance
There a lots of dog walkers using the park now. A Glory Maple tree has been ordered from the Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District for winning the Tree Competition in 2019.

Bernie Mandel reports a Board member needs to replace Walt Waetjen’s position.
Ed Curtis motioned to award the Maintenance Contract for 2020-2021 to Abate Landscaping at The Commons park. Rick Izant seconded the motion. Vote was taken: Mick, yes; Ed, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes; and Greg, yes. All in favor, motion carried. Jason’s workers will be arriving April 1 for the season.
Next meeting will be Wednesday, March 11, 2020 7 p at the High School library.
