MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR MEETING

WEST GEAUGA COMMUNITY JOINT RECREATION DISTRICT

June 10, 2020

President Greg Poe called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm at pavilion of The Commons.  Board members present – Mick Benitez-Santana, Ed Curtis, Frank Formicelli, John Gromek, Rick Izant, Bernie Mandel, Linda Palchick and Greg Poe.  Jason Abate also present. Visitor Sarah Sustin in attendance.  

Bernie Mandel motioned to accept the May 2020 minutes.  Ed Curtis seconded.  Vote was taken:  Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes and Greg, yes. All in favor, motion carried.

The May treasurer’s report was distributed by Treasurer Ed Curtis. The treasurer’s report showed:  Ending checking balance: $35,349.00; Total disbursements: $7,872.46; Total deposits: $4,126.25; Encumbered funds: $5,320.00; Unencumbered funds: $50,755.85.  Rick Izant motioned to accept the treasurer’s report; John Gromek seconded.  Ed Curtis seconded.  Vote was taken:  Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes and Greg, yes. All in favor, motion carried.

Frank Formicelli motioned to pay the following bills:

John Gromek seconded the motion.  Ed Curtis seconded.  Vote was taken:  Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes and Greg, yes. All in favor, motion carried.

The 2021 budget will be discussed at the June meeting.

No one is scheduled for the fields or the Pavilion. 

Maintenance – John Gromek and Jason Abate                                                                             

Jason has been cutting grass every 5 days.  John Gromek said there is a small pothole on the drive, that cold patch can be used.

The volleyball nets will be put up this week and the sand dragged for weeds.  Frank Formicelli questioned sanitizing the playground. Rick Izant reported that Josh Holbrook from Best Sand is no longer with the company.  He will call to research who will be handling our playground sand.  Visitor Sarah Sustin asked if she can get a group of kids together to possibly play at maybe 4 p on Sunday afternoons to spark an interest to use our field.  There is no boys volleyball available at West Geauga HS.

Linda Palchick has been in touch with the Willowleaf company in Middlefield with our plaque project for the pavilion and trail.

New Business                                                                                                                                

The baseball storage building had the lock jimmied.  Rodents got in and chewed up the equipment.  Baseball Federation has to replace the damaged equipment.  There is now a padlock on the door.

Ed Curtis reported that the News Herald will publicize our monthly meeting information.

Discussion was held to move our monthly board meetings to the 3^rd Tuesday each month, starting in October.  Bernie Mandel motioned to move the meeting to this date, Ed Curtis seconded.  Ed Curtis seconded.  Vote was taken:  Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes and Greg, yes. All in favor, motion carried.

A new group picture of the board members is needed. 

Bernie Mandel motioned for meeting adjournment at 7:40 p.  Rick Izant seconded.  Ed Curtis seconded.  Vote was taken:  Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes and Greg, yes. All in favor, motion carried.
