MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR MEETING
WEST GEAUGA COMMUNITY JOINT RECREATION DISTRICT
May 16, 2023
President Greg Poe called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm at The Commons pavilion. Board members present – Ed Curtis, Frank Formicelli, John Gromek, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick, Greg Poe, Sarah Sustin. Jason Abate was also present.
Girl Scout Megan McGinnis was present to finalize building plans for the New Park Sign project for her Girl Scout project. The location was selected along the path entrance to the Pavilion. Jason Abate will dig 2 holes for the posts. Construction shall begin in 2-3 weeks. 4
The minutes from the April 2023 meeting presented by clerk Monica Gromek. Ed Curtis motioned to accept the minutes. Frank Formicelli seconded. Vote was taken – Ed Curtis, yes; Frank Formicelli, yes; John Gromek, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Greg Poe, yes; Sarah Sustin, yes. Motion carried.
Treasurer Ed Curtis distributed the April treasurer’s report. The treasurer’s report showed: Ending checking balance: $60,393.78; Total disbursements: $7,758.22; Savings account ending balance $21,763.51. Total deposits: $8.33; Encumbered funds: $500.00; Unencumbered funds: $81,657.29. Rick Izant motioned to accept the treasurer’s report; John Gromek seconded. Vote was taken – Ed Curtis, yes; Frank Formicelli, yes; John Gromek, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Greg Poe, yes; Sarah Sustin, yes. Motion carried.
Rick Izant motioned the following bills be paid:

Steigerwald Septic Pumping 2 septic tanks $765.00
Sara Sustin seconded. Vote was taken – Ed Curtis, yes; Frank Formicelli, yes; John Gromek, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Greg Poe, yes; Sarah Sustin, yes. Motion carried.

Facilities/Linda Games from the main field to field 3 Jr. Field used by Soccer Club and Rec Council. No baseball schedule submitted yet.
Maintenance – John Gromek, Jason Abate Discussion on possibly paving portions of the trail. John Gromek, Ed Curtis and Jason Abate met at the site. Initial paving from the restrooms, up hill to the other side of junior soccer field down to the bottom. John Gromek talked with Joe Slepko from the Geauga Park District what they do at their parks. He suggested a 6 to 8 inch hard pack. Joe suggested GAR paving. John Gromek would like an engineering evaluation of this project.
Jason Abate and board discussed the Memorial Garden/placement of the memorial benches for Walt Waetjen and Bernie Mandel. Suggestion the angle the 2 benches towards the memorial rock, facing the soccer field. Jason also suggested installing a path to this area to dig down 5 inches. Linda Palchick suggested the year of service and the position they held be placed at their bench. Details also of this project be placed in our new park board by the pavilion. Families of both WGCJRC memorial members will be invited to the 1 – 4 pm June 24, 2023 dedication event. Sara Sustin will send out invitations to this dedication. Addresses are needed. Rick Izant and Linda Palchick will write an article for the newspaper.
June’s Board meeting for our budget will be Wednesday, June 21, 7 pm at the Commons.
Linda Palchick motioned to encumber $850.00 to Abate Landscaping to do the path to the Memorial Gardens. Rick Izant seconded. Vote was taken – Ed Curtis, yes; Frank Formicelli, yes; John Gromek, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Greg Poe, yes; Sarah Sustin, yes. Motion carried.
New Business – The slate of officers for the next year was presented. Greg Poe, President; Rick Izant, Vice President; Ed Curtis, Treasurer; Linda Palchick, Secretary. Frank Formicelli motioned to accept the slate of officers. Sarah Sustin seconded. Vote was taken – Ed Curtis, yes; Frank Formicelli, yes; John Gromek, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Greg Poe, yes; Sarah Sustin, yes. Motion carried.
Linda Palchick distributed an updated history of The Commons and gave each board member a copy. Frank Formicelli will scan the new updated version and will place on our website.
John Gromek motioned for meeting adjournment at 7:55 pm. Frank Formicelli seconded. Vote was taken – Ed Curtis, yes; Frank Formicelli, yes; John Gromek, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Greg Poe, yes; Sarah Sustin, yes. Motion carried.
