Regular Meeting – May 21, 2024
Pat Jasko Pavilion at The Commons
President Greg Poe called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. Board members present – Evan Byrum, Ed Curtis, Chris Domonkos, John Gromek, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick, Sara Sustin and Greg Poe. Jason Abate was also present.
Rick Izant motioned to approve April 2024 minutes, Linda Palchick seconded. Vote was taken: Evan Byrum, yes; Ed Curtis, yes; Chris Domonkos, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Sara Sustin, yes; and Greg Poe, yes. Minutes approved and emailed to each Board member.
Treasurer Ed Curtis distributed the May 2024 treasurer’s report. The treasurer’s report showed: Ending checking balance: $55,827.45; Total disbursements: $11,180.00; Savings account ending balance: $21,888.45; Total deposits: $9.57; Encumbered funds: $0; Unencumbered funds: $76,465.90. Rick Izant motioned to accept the treasurer’s report. Linda Palchick seconded. Vote was taken – Evan Byrum, yes; Ed Curtis, yes; Chris Domonkos, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Sara Sustin, yes; and Greg Poe, yes. Motion carried.
Linda Palchick motioned to pay the following bills:
Monica Gromek May minutes $ 40.00
Chris Domonkos seconded. Vote was taken – Ed Curtis, yes; Chris Domonkos, yes; John Gromek, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Greg Poe, yes; Motion carried.
Ed Curtis would like to make an amendment to the PO to Iosue to increase the cost $90.00 for a $7,090.00 total. Linda Palchick motioned to approve this cost addition, Chris Domonkos seconded. Vote was taken: Evan Byrum, yes; Ed Curtis, yes; Chris Domonkos, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Sara Sustin, yes; and Greg Poe, yes.
A $2500.00 check has been received from the Baseball Federation for field preparation.
Facilities – Linda Palchick
Rec Council and Soccer Club are close to ending their games. No information on Men’s soccer has been received. Board discussion that we are not happy with the condition of the field presently; their 1st game is tomorrow. The field is not dragged; there is some grass in the infield. Iosue said cost is $75.00 each. Baseball backed out of dragging. Board questions: what will be their weekly usage of the field? Sara Sustin talked with Kelly who thought the Board was taking care of the field. Kelly contacted Chris Domonkos. Baseball Federation is responsible for the field prep. Their 1st game is tomorrow. Sara Sustin said a bleacher is needed on the home side of the baseball field. But there is a trail right behind that area.
Maintenance – Jason Abate
Jason has fertilized and striped all the fields. There was a team that showed up for flag football practice. Jason told them the fields are for games only; no practice games. Jason’s summer crew begins to arrive the 1st of May for the summer. Rick Izant motioned to encumber $750.00 for path grindings for near the river. Chris Domonkos seconded. Vote was taken – Ed Curtis, yes; Chris Domonkos, yes; John Gromek, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Greg Poe, yes; Motion carried. Chris Domonkos said that 3 tons of rock was taken out of the finishing baseball field prep today.
Kelly Graham (Baseball) said Iosue Landscaping will be dragging and lining all the fields at the Commons. WGBF will give 3K towards the work being done at the baseball field at the Commons.
Ed Curtis suggested our improvement fund is growing and possibly we can continue to pave more of the trail/path.
Jason Abate sprayed for weeds at the volleyball courts. Ed Curtis received a call from Russell Twp, that someone called them to complain we were putting pesticides down; which is untrue. Ed called the woman who complained 2X and there was no answer. The Board will review/evaluate repairs possibly needed in the parking lot. The trail has been dragged, volleyball court done, and grass is being cut. Ohio State Parks visited today and said the park is looking very good. Men were playing on lower soccer field with no permit/asked to leave.
1st game is Saturday at 10. Jason came to stripe the field and Tina moved the game to the lower field.
Website - Still needs updating. Chris will do and will stop at Altmedia to discuss. Chris will add Frank Formicelli as the 2nd contact.
Election of officers was presented: Greg Poe, President; Rick Izant, Vice-President; Ed Curtis, Treasurer; and Linda Palchick, Secretary. Chris Domonkos motioned to accept the slate; Evan Byrum seconded. Vote was taken: Evan Byrum, yes; Ed Curtis, yes; Chris Domonkos, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Sara Sustin, yes; and Greg Poe, yes.
Lining of the fields – Linda Palchick said last year we didn’t line in the summertime as it was too costly. Greg Poe said cones can be put up. The goal areas on the Jr. Soccer field need to be seeded as they are too wet. Jason will plant seed in these areas.
Greg Poe has been Board reappointed for a 3-yr term effective to April 2027 from Chester Township.
Russell Township contacted us about a reported coyote siting in the park. Discussion. Signs can be put up saying there has been a coyote siting. Jason said he has never seen a coyote at the site in the 14 years he has maintained the park. Sara Sustin will call Russell township.
Next meeting is at the Pat Jasko Pavilion at the Park June 18, 2024. Our July meeting is the budget constraints/discussion and picnic. Ed Curtis will place a meeting notice in the paper.
