WEST GEAUGA COMMUNITY JOINT RECREATION DISTRICT

Regular Meeting – February 18, 2025

Geauga West Library, 13455 Chillicothe Road, Chesterland

President Greg Poe called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. Board members present:  Evan Byrum, Ed Curtis, Chris Domonkos, Kristen Foerster, Rick Izant, Sara Sustin and Greg Poe. Jason Abate and John Gromek were also present.

The minutes from the January 2025 meeting were presented by Monica Gromek. Ed Curtis motioned to accept the minutes; Rick Izant seconded. Vote was taken – Evan Byrum-yes; Ed Curtis-yes; Chris Domonkos-yes; Kristen Foerster-yes; Rick Izant-yes; Sara Sustin-yes; Greg Poe-yes. All in favor, motion carried.

Treasurer Report - Ed Curtis

Treasurer Ed Curtis distributed the February 2025 treasurer’s report. The treasurer’s report showed: checking balance forwarded: $47,473.35;  total disbursements: $1,378.00; total deposits: $0; ending checking balance: $46,095.35. Savings balance forwarded: $24,479.83; disbursements: $0; deposits: $10.37. Evan Byrum motioned to accept the treasurer’s report. Chris Domonkos seconded. Vote was taken – Evan Byrum-yes; Ed Curtis-yes; Chris Domonkos-yes; Kristen Foerster-yes; Rick Izant-yes; Sara Sustin-yes; Greg Poe-yes. All in favor, motion carried.

Rick Izant motioned to pay the following bills:

Facilities

Linda Palchick contacted the parent organization of the soccer club regarding the END of the spring session. There will be NO games after 6/12/25, therefore Linda OK’d Steve DiFranco’s pavilion permit for Sunday, June 15, 2025 (2 pm to 9 pm). Linda will also contact the Russell police, as requested by the chief. Closer to the date. The chief said they would make “drive throughs” to check on everything since there are to be so many guests. Linda will invite the local youth organization (Rec. Council, Soccer Club + Baseball Federation) to March’s meeting.

Maintenance

Jason Abate’s work crew arrives April 1. 2025.  Jason and crew can prep the baseball infield. Ed Curtis shared a bid from Vitale to pave another section of the path this year, 4 ft. wide, for $24,265.00.

AED Discussion

The park AED’s will be ordered in April. Chris Domonkos motioned to encumber $5,000.00 for their purchase. Sara Sustin seconded. Vote was taken – Evan Byrum-yes; Ed Curtis-yes; Chris Domonkos-yes; Kristen Foerster-yes; Rick Izant-yes; Sara Sustin-yes; Greg Poe-yes. All in favor, motion carried. They will be visibly installed at the park restrooms. Explanations of the AED’s will be given at our March meeting. The Russell Fire Department recommends mounting together the case, pads, and lithium batteries (which should be good for 4 years).
